With the generous assistance of people like you, we will be able to support the commemoration of Mattie Stepanek in the 26-acre Rockville City Park named for him. In addition, proceeds will support the creation of a school curriculum using Mattie’s work to teach children that there are other alternatives to bullying—employing the cornerstone of Mattie’s belief that “Peace is possible.”

In 2007, without having ever embarked on this sort of community event, our blind goal was to raise $15,000 in order to make the completion of the Mattie statue in the park named after him, a possibility. Businesses like yours helped us surpass that goal with a final tally of over $16,000 and over $2,000 in in-kind donations. This year we hope to raise even more funds to develop the school curriculum so needed in this time. . We expect over 200 members of the Rockville community to participate in the two-hour marathon swimming event. Countless family and community members will also be in attendance.

In 2008, the event was discussed on air with the Jack Diamond Morning Show of radio fame. In addition, WJLA reporter Gretta Kreuz, was on site to cover the event.

Our venue, the Rockville Municipal Swim Center, provides us with a very large pool to accommodate all swimmers. In fact, we will have 20 lanes this year!
